Carles Gil and Peyton Miller strike twice as Revolution bury Orlando with stoppage-time surge

For 88 minutes, New England looked like a side at risk of letting a strong night slip away. Then the Revolution turned the match into a sprint, and Orlando City SC could not live with it in a 4-2 MLS defeat at Gillette Stadium.

Gil started it, but New England never got to relax

The Revolution opened the scoring in the 19th minute with the kind of finish that changes the feel of a game immediately. Carles Gil took Jackson Yueill's assist and drove a left-footed shot from outside the box into the top-right corner, a reminder that New England did not need a crowded six-yard box to trouble Orlando. It was the cleanest moment of the first half, and it gave the home side a lead their broader numbers would keep supporting through the night.

Those numbers matter here because this was not one of those matches where the scoreboard ran completely against the run of play. New England finished with 17 shots to Orlando's 11, put nine on target to Orlando's five, and won 10 corners to Orlando's three. Possession was almost split down the middle, 51.3 percent to 48.7, and both teams were tidy enough on the ball overall, but the Revolution produced more repeated pressure. Orlando stayed close enough to remain dangerous, yet the game kept asking the same question: could New England turn volume into separation?

A game that kept reopening

For a while, it looked as if Peyton Miller had supplied that separation. In the 59th minute, Dor Turgeman set him up on a fast break, and Miller finished left-footed from the centre of the box for a 2-0 lead. It was an important detail in a match that would later be defined by transition moments. New England's second goal did not come from slow accumulation or set-piece clutter. It came from speed, space and a decisive final touch.

Orlando answered almost immediately. Iván Angulo made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute with a right-footed finish from the centre of the box into the bottom-left corner, and that quick response stopped the Revolution from settling into comfort. Instead of a two-goal cushion becoming control, the evening shifted back toward uncertainty. The visitors did not overwhelm the stat sheet, but they stayed connected to the match, and that was enough to keep pressure on every New England mistake the rest of the way.

The equalizer arrived late and changed the tone again. Martín Ojeda converted a penalty in the 88th minute, left-footed into the bottom-left corner, for 2-2. With that, Orlando had erased the two-goal deficit despite producing fewer shots, fewer corners and slightly less of the ball. It was an efficient comeback, and it exposed the uncomfortable truth for New England: a match with more chances and more territory still had not been put away.

Stoppage time belonged to Miller, then Gil

What followed was the decisive burst, and it came from the same place New England had already found success. In the third minute of stoppage time, Diego Fagúndez played a through ball on a fast break and Miller finished from the right side of the box to the bottom-left corner. That made it 3-2 and turned a deflating late concession into a renewed advantage almost immediately. Miller's line was substantial beyond the winner as well: six shots, four on target and two goals, the profile of a player who kept showing up in dangerous places.

Orlando still had not escaped the danger when the Revolution struck again at 90+6. Turgeman supplied the assist, Gil supplied the finish, and New England had its fourth goal. Gil's left-footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom-left corner completed his brace and ended the comeback talk for good. Between them, Gil and Miller scored all four Revolution goals, while Turgeman quietly shaped the night with two assists. Maxime Crépeau's five saves kept Orlando afloat for long stretches, but New England's late speed finally broke the game open for good.

Our take: a deserved win, and clear lessons for both teams

Our take: the Revolution were the better attacking side, and the result fits that part of the evidence. Nine shots on target, 10 corners and four different assists suggest a team that kept finding ways to create. Even so, this was not dominance so complete that the defensive lapses can be ignored. New England led 2-0, then allowed goals at 62 and 88 minutes, and a night with four yellow cards carried more edge than it needed to. If there is one obvious area to clean up, it is turning pressure into calm before the match gets chaotic.

For Orlando, the frustration should be sharp because the comeback to 2-2 was real work, and it was undone by the same kind of problem three times in one half. New England's goals at 59, 90+3 and 90+6 were all recorded as fast-break finishes, with the third goal in stoppage time also coming from a through ball. That does not explain every tactical detail, but it is enough to point toward a practical concern: once attacks broke down, Orlando did not protect the next phase well enough. Against a Revolution side with Gil's finishing and Miller's directness, that was the difference between a salvageable point and a two-goal loss.
