NHL: Adam Sykora out 4–5 months with lower-body injury for New York Rangers, per NHL.comImage accompanying the official NHL announcement.

New York Rangers forward Adam Sykora will miss about four to five months with a lower-body injury suffered in the first period of Monday’s 3-2 preseason loss to the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center, NHL.com reported Sept. 23, 2026.

NHL.com said the 22-year-old was “caught a bit off balance” when Devils defenceman Mikael Diotte hit him in the corner. Sykora fell awkwardly into the boards and needed help leaving the ice.

The injury affects Sykora’s chance to make the Rangers’ opening-night roster. NHL.com said he entered camp with an opportunity to earn a spot after posting three goals and one assist in 11 games following a recall from Hartford of the American Hockey League last season.

Sykora also had 29 points, including 12 goals and 17 assists, in 62 games with Hartford, numbers NHL.com cited as part of his case for a regular-season role with New York.

The Rangers have two preseason games left against New Jersey, including Thursday at Madison Square Garden, before finishing Friday against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.

New York opens its regular season Tuesday against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. NHL.com listed the start time as 8 p.m. ET and said the game will air on ESPN.
