Norris says he’s improving after McLaren’s upturn as Azerbaijan GP arrives
Image accompanying the official F1 announcement.Lando Norris arrived in Baku with momentum after winning two of the last four Grands Prix as McLaren has found more performance in recent rounds. Speaking on Wednesday ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Norris said he believes his own approach has improved since last season, adding that he is getting more from a “tricky car” and feels “more relaxed” than he did at this point last year.
Norris said he is doing “some things better than last year,” while stressing it is not simply a dramatic jump in performance. He said some of his results last season were already comparable to this year’s but were not recognized the same way, and he pointed to greater consistency and trust in his own ability as factors that have helped.
On the title fight, Norris dismissed any suggestion that he is challenging Kimi Antonelli for the drivers’ championship. He heads into the weekend 106 points back with nine Grands Prix remaining.
Norris also said Baku could be a difficult circuit for McLaren. He said the track has “not one high speed corner” and lacks even medium-speed corners, making it more of a “Monaco spec” test similar to a type of venue where McLaren has struggled.
While he said the team still wants to fight for victory, Norris added that Azerbaijan is a weekend he has “not been looking forward to the most,” given the team’s recent history at the circuit.
