McLaren and Williams target Azerbaijan Grand Prix upgrade packages as every team’s changes are revealed
Image accompanying the official F1 announcement.Formula 1 teams have outlined a broad mix of upgrade plans for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with Mercedes submitting no changes for the weekend and Ferrari opting to maximize its current package in Baku.
McLaren has brought one of the most extensive update packages among the frontrunners. Its changes include revised sidepod inlet shaping, updates to the engine cover and coke line, an alternative sidepod, and rear suspension fairing modifications aimed at improving aerodynamic performance. The team has also introduced a new floor edge design and diffuser layout, adjusted the rear wing flap position in Straight Mode to reduce drag, and changed the cooling louvre layout and position for what it described as maximum aerodynamic performance at different cooling levels. The package is track-specific for Baku City Circuit.
Red Bull’s changes are more subtle, centred on revised floor geometry and a revised sidepod intended to increase local downforce while maintaining flow stability. The team also adjusted the cooling louvres to integrate the new sidepod into the existing bodywork, and made further changes to the mirror assembly and halo to help downstream conditioning and add local load. Racing Bulls has also focused on airflow, with a new front wing and brake duct plus front suspension changes designed to manage airflow around the car so the floor can work effectively.
Audi has introduced a wide-ranging package as it tries to strengthen its midfield fight. The team’s changes include a completely new front wing and nose, revised front suspension fairings, an updated floor and bodywork package, and adjustments to the rear wing and rear suspension, for a total of 14 upgraded parts.
Williams, after waiting an extra round, has brought updated floor bodywork assembly, revised tail geometry to work with the new floor, reprofiled surfaces on front brake-duct flow-conditioning devices, and multiple rear-end changes including realigned rear suspension surfaces and a retuned rear brake duct.
No upgrades have been listed for Alpine, Haas and Aston Martin. Cadillac has introduced an updated brake-cooling inlet and exit-duct profile, revised front suspension fairing surfaces to match front-corner changes, and an adjusted diffuser intended to increase local aerodynamic load.
