A 59-year-old Vernon man was stopped by BC Highway Patrol on Oct. 2 for excessive speed and received a second excessive-speed impound after a June 2025 impound in Falkland.
The Story
BC Highway Patrol says a 59-year-old man from Vernon was stopped on Oct. 2 at about 10:15 a.m. after being recorded at 151 km/h in a 100 zone while driving a Dodge Challenger Hemi R/T.
Police said the driver blamed his “muscle” car for the speeding, but Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said the vehicle has two pedals.
McLaughlin said the man had also lost his car to a BCHP excessive-speed impound in June 2025 in Falkland, making the Oct. 2 stop the second time his car was impounded for excessive speed.
The officer issued tickets for excessive speed and tinted windows, and BCHP said the man also had to pay the cost of a tow and a seven-day impound.
BCHP reported that the man’s premiums for high-risk driving would increase for at least three years, adding to a total cost described as upwards of $2,500.
McLaughlin said that while BCHP stops drivers of all ages who are speeding excessively, drivers of this age should “really know better.”
