B.C. driver accused of impaired speeding loses Corvette after Highway Patrol stop in Coldstream

A 55-year-old Coldstream man accused of impaired driving was issued roadside and speeding charges after an alleged high-speed escape from BC Highway Patrol on Sept. 26.

The Story

A 55-year-old man from Coldstream accused of impaired driving lost his 2025 Corvette to impound after a speeding incident involving BC Highway Patrol.

BC Highway Patrol says the driver passed an officer on Highway 6 in Coldstream on Sept. 26 at about 8:30 a.m. According to the agency, a radar reading showed the Corvette was travelling 120 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

BC Highway Patrol reports that the officer activated lights and a siren and followed the vehicle, but says the driver was “oblivious” and instead accelerated into the open roadway. Police say the man continued at speeds up to and above 120 km/h even after the speed limit dropped to 50 km/h.

The agency says the driver eventually stopped at a mini mall once he realized BC Highway Patrol was attempting to pull him over. BC Highway Patrol says the driver then failed two Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) tests, and his driver’s licence was immediately seized.

BC Highway Patrol says the man was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and a 30-day notice of impoundment for the 2025 Corvette. He was also issued a violation ticket for excessive speed for $368.

Police say the driver will face additional costs including impound and administrative fees, high-risk driver premiums and a licence reinstatement fee, bringing total costs to at least $2,400.
